Although the laws of our society can be divisive at times, there is at least some merit as to why they are there in the first place. Many bills and laws are devoted solely to an issue or regulation notable enough to address, but what about the ones that no longer serve any purpose? Turns out, there are plenty of state laws that are like that, and it is a wonder how they managed to stick around.
Some of these laws are so specific that it seems like they only became laws because of one guy. For instance, there is a state law in Georgia that makes it illegal to carry an ice cream cone in your back pocket on Sundays. Not only is the idea of someone having a cone in their pocket hilarious, but also the fact that this law only prohibits this on Sundays specifically.
Many other laws are just as ridiculous. In Arkansas, it’s illegal to mispronounce the state’s name. In New Hampshire, It’s illegal to collect seaweed at night. In Maryland, it’s illegal to swear while driving. Every state in America has one or two of these kinds of rules that prohibit something odd.
Despite how crazy some of these laws are, they are still technically enforceable and can lead to charges. However, many weird laws are rarely brought up and serve more as fun trivia. Otherwise, we would have a lot of lawbreakers who weren’t aware of their crimes! While these laws are funny and are hardly enforced, they should still remove the ones that aren’t necessary. I’m sure that we can all at least agree on that.
