“Dandadan,” is a Japanese animated show that received its first season in 2024. However, the first season received a surprising amount of success that blew even my expectations of how well it would have done out of the water and it doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon with its second season currently airing.
“Dandadan,” seems to simply have played all its cards just right to be a true success, first being its marketing. The marketing for “Dandadan,” was expertly done with generous amounts of advertisements than other animated Japanese projects typically receive. Its wide accessibility on streaming services also allowed it to get a leg up over other shows. Word of mouth and even content creators online uploading videos of them watching the show is also a key factor that allowed for a quick rise in popularity among general audiences.
“Dandadan,” also got one of the best animation studios it could ask for, that being Science Saru, also known for animating “Devilman Crybaby,” “Inu-Oh,” “Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken” and many other projects, as the studio’s flashy, quick, vivid and experimental animation style fit’s the source materials style beautifully.
“Dandadan,” also portrays an interesting and unique blend of action-packed battle shows, elements of horror as well as slow burn romance that makes it easy to appeal to a large general audience. Combined with its unexpected moments of strong character depth and it’s a perfect recipe for a massive hit. As the animated adaptation of “Dandadan,” continues, the unbridled interest people have for the show seems to be continuously growing and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.
