Right when NY two historical, prestige teams are up against the wall: consecutive losses, depleted morale, and angry fans.. The New York Yankees and New York Mets appear to be bouncing back. After the summer slugfest that permeated the NY Baseball ecosystem, a bright spot appears to have emerged. This is especially true for the former, whose hitmen has recently been putting on elite performances this past couple of weeks.
The Yankees slugger, Giancarlo Stanton, has seen a variety of injuries that has led to having a sole 120–game season. Not a good sign at first, but after missing a large chunk of this season: he appears to be in rare form.
Giancarlo Stanton has been on his way to Hall Of Fame status but these recent performances might help solidify that road. Stanton’s average exit velocity and hard-hit percentage are at their highest levels. His flyballs are his highest, but his groundballs are his lowest.
Regardless, Stanton is hitting a lot more balls in the air and the batting average is in the .250-.260 average. And with his tendency to hit hard, he could very well reach past 500 home runs if he keeps it up at this rate.
The fact that he’s in his 30s and has survived the list of injuries he’s amassed is amazing. He shouldn’t be like this but he’s been terrific.
He’s hitting with 313/.388/.663 with a 1.051 OPS and 17 home-runs since his return in June. That is insane and enough to justify the MVP chatter.
Overall, the Yankees better keep him healthy and possibly in load management. He’s looking like a strong MVP candidate. Pitchers beware!
