Federal Immigration agents conducted two raids on cannabis farms in California and ended up clashing against protesters on July 10, 2025. According to The Guardian, “Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents accompanied by national guard troops in military-style vehicles turned up at two locations operated by Glass House Farms, one in the Santa Barbara county town of Carpinteria, about 90 miles (145 km) north-west of Los Angeles and one in the Ventura county community of Camarillo, about 50 miles from LA.”
Reports of the raids had flooded social media sites, such as X for example, of the protests and raids. On X, the governor of California, Gavin Newsom shared video footage of protesters and children fleeing from teargas. Another clip, posted by Harry Sisson, shows recorded footage of militarized ICE personnel arresting several farmers from the cannabis farm from a bird’s eye view. Another clip depicts a protester pulling a firearm on several ICE agents at the raid. Additionally, a post shows footage of more protesters blocking the path of an armored ICE vehicle that were at the militarized ICE raid.
According to Yahoo News, “Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Andrew Dowd said three people had been transported to area hospitals. He did not know the extent of their injuries but said crews were on site to help people who were injured.” Many of the protesters among the crowd were allegedly family members of the workers at the cannabis farm. According to News Nation, “Among those taken into custody, according to Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Rodney Scott, were 10 minors, eight of them in the country illegally after entering as unaccompanied minors.”
