Recently, a UK studio with only two members, ‘Chequered Ink’, has released an asset pack with over 10,000 assets online that only costs $20. The founders, Allison James and Dan Johnston, said they provided the asset pack so that indie developers do not feel like they need to use AI-generated content for their games.
The massive asset bundle is being sold for $20 but is having a launch sale that cuts the price in half to $10. The assets provided by the bundle can be used for, quote: “ANY and ALL uses, including commercial use, with or without giving credit.” The only restriction that the asset pack has is that you are not allowed to sell or redistribute the assets as if they were your own without altering them.
Allison and Dan have given the following statement regarding the content of the pack: “The wide range of genres and styles represented in the asset pack will allow developers lots of room for creativity,” they continue, “The simple, clean style of the HD assets makes them easy to adapt and build upon for larger projects.”
The two-person team has shown their distaste for AI-generated content in video games and have created these assets to act as an alternative for indie developers who are in need of cheap assets for their games.
According to the team in a public statement, this is not the end of their contribution to helping indie developers. They plan to continue producing additional graphics, sounds, and assets for developers to use in their games. They are dedicated to providing handcrafted assets for developers to use so that they do not need to turn to AI to generate their assets.
