Indie Games Will See a Rise in Popularity

As we continue to see the rise of game prices and the fall in the quality that these sorts of games should have, many gamers are left to seek out alternatives. Like most industries, the big names of game publishers are more focused on profits and will restrict the freedom their developers want in favor of meeting deadlines. However, it stands that one part of the gaming community will benefit from these faults.

“Indie games” is a term used to describe the work of independent developers. These people work with a small team or even by themselves to create and publish video games out from under the thumb of corporations and big-time publishers. They use sites like Steam and Itch.io to share their creations, rather than physical copies.

There are a lot of perks for both consumers and indie developers to enjoy. Indie games are significantly cheaper than most AAA games, which makes it more feasible to try out and purchase multiple games. The independence that these types of games provide promotes creativity and the freedom for developers to experiment and try things out. Although they don’t have as many resources as the corporations do, the limitations they have are what strive them to think outside the box and come up with ways to work around their limits. Indie developers are also under no time constraints to get their games out, leaving them with more time to perfect their product and make it worth the purchase.

In many ways, these indie games are what most game publishers should try to replicate. Hopefully, more people will give these games a try and realize what they are missing out on.
