It’s not every day someone from Hollywood is on Long Island, much less is on the Island and gets arrested.
Early this past Tuesday, according to MSNBC, pop star and former NYSNC member Justin Timberlake was arrested under suspicion of driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, New York. Though claiming he only had one martini, Timberlake’s eyes being bloodshot, the stench of alcohol on his breath, and his overall failure of the field sobriety test say otherwise.
According to Page Six, Timberlake, upon arrest, muttered that the night’s events were “going to ruin the tour”. This misplacement of priorities, his latest album not doing well, acting roles drying up, and his wife being upset with the arrest was a perfect storm of unfortunate events.
When one or more controversies, such as a DWI arrest and a failed sobriety test, happen to a celebrity, more negative aspects about their personality spread like wildfire. Page Six has put together a not-so-good image of the star. From comments regarding his poor character, Hollywood and industry insiders have referred to him as a “jerk” with an “ego”, to how he villainized Britany Spears, no stone has been left unturned since Timberlake’s mug shot was released on the internet.
None of this, no doubt, is good for Timberlake’s image. But, aside from his character in the “Trolls” series, the singer hasn’t been in the public eye that much, so saying his reputation is “ruined” might be a bit of a stretch. “Further damaged” would be a more appropriate term. Brittany Spears fans are not going to let what he did to her, Page Six mentioned that Brittany recalls Timberlake forcing her to get an abortion in her memoir, go easily. Justin’s comments upon his arrest, insiders critiquing him like no tomorrow, and old controversies resurfacing all lead to one possible conclusion: this won’t end well for the former boy band member.
Diehard fans of NSYNC, though, will most likely continue to love the songs. But there is a huge difference between liking someone’s music and liking them as a person. Others, though, might not be able to let everything Justin has done go, not listening to his music or watching movies he is in out of anger. If the latter occurs, we can’t say he’s ending his career on a high note.
