Is Lara Trump Considering a Senate Bid?

President-elect Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, announced she has stepped down from her position as co-chair of the Republican National Committee. Many speculate she has stepped down to run for a vacant senate seat in Florida.

Should Trump’s selection for secretary of state, Marco Rubio, be appointed, his senatorial seat will be up for grabs. Rubio’s term will not be up until 2026. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis will select an appointee to fill Rubio’s seat until his term concludes.

“It is something I would seriously consider,” Lara Trump told the Associated Press in an interview. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like.”

Lara Trump was elected to co-chair the Republican National Committee in March – after her father-in-law recommended her. She used her position to fund Trump’s campaign and was one of his strongest fundraisers. Under her leadership, the RNC recruited 230,000 volunteers and an “army of lawyers” for its election integrity effort.

Satisfied with her efforts to get her father-in-law reelected, Lara Trump says she’s finished all the work she set out to do in the RNC. “With that big win, I kind of feel like my time is up,” she said. “What I intended to do has been done.”

Close allies to the Trump administration, including Elon Musk and his mother, have voiced support online for Laura Trump to take over Rubio’s seat. Lara Trump has also vocalized ongoing support for Musk, particularly regarding his new department, DOGE. “I don’t think we’ve seen a movement like this in our federal government since our country’s founding in many ways,” she said. “I think if they are successful in what they plan to do, it will be transformative to America in a great way.”

Both Donald Trump and Lara Trump have confirmed in public interviews that the upcoming administration will not include any of the President’s family members. This comes after his first term, which included his daughter, Ivanka, and son-in-law, Jared Kushner, as advisors.
