Is Real R&B Back With Kehlani’s New Single ‘Folded’?

Every time Kehlani releases music, she consistently delivers raw and unfiltered emotions. In her new single, “Folded,” Kehlani takes a soulful R&B breakup song that would usually be filled with anger, sadness and regret and turns it into a song about finding peace and not losing herself in the midst of heartbreak.

The lyrics, “So can you come pick up your clothes? I have them folded. Meet me at the door, while it’s still open,” spoke to me as if she had no animosity towards the end of this relationship. She’s considerate in folding her ex’s clothes and warning them to come to pick the clothes up while she’s still figuratively leaving the door open to her life for this person.

The instrumental intro to the track right before the beat dips reminded me of a princess movie intro. It’s so beautiful and enriched that you would expect this song to be about the beginning of something beautiful, but instead, it’s the end of something, and maybe that’s just as beautiful.

Kehlani has been keeping busy. With her 2024 tour for her album “Crash,” the artist is not leaving her fans waiting for more. In Feb. 2025, Kehlani hopped on Kwn’s song “Worst Behavior,” which took off, especially on apps such as TikTok and Instagram. Just a few months later, she dropped “Folded,” and now her fans have been blessed with a music video as well.

In the “Folded” music video, the choreography symbolizes a wash and dry cycle. In the first scene, Kehlani and her dancers are seen dancing and splashing water around, representative of the wash/rinse cycle. In the second half of the video, the choreography changes tones, with a lot of wind and hagiography involved, representative of the dry cycle.

Kehlani is constantly teasing new music on her social media, so fans know they will continue being fed. We can’t wait to see what Kehlani has in store next.
