Reggaeton Artist of the Month for June 2023
Isabella Lovestory, the persona of Isabella Rodriguez, is a Honduran pop and reggaeton artist who channels themes of self-expression and sexual empowerment through music described as perreo-pop.
Born in 1993 in Honduras, Rodriguez and her family moved to the USA when she was 11. They eventually relocated to Montreal, where Rodriguez started making music (initially for her cat!) But the one thing that never changed was Rodriguez’s lifelong admiration for female pop idols and the glamorous world they live in. Driven by that admiration, she participated in numerous talent shows throughout her youth. “When I was little, I wanted to be like Britney Spears,” she said. “I was so obsessed.”
Reggeaton, which Rodriguez was exposed to while growing up in Honduras, continues to significantly influence her work alongside the pop sensibilities she cultivated in North America. She released her debut single in 2019 and her debut album “Amor Hardcore” in 2022, with production from her main collaborator Chicken. The album was a hit in various music publications praising its cutting-edge and genre-blending beats.
Her music, which is often sexually charged, has been a hit among female fans especially. Rodriguez has stated that “Isabella Lovestory” is a persona through which she can exaggerate her personality and have fun without restriction, which includes empowering fellow women and making her fans feel “confident, sexy, carefree, fearless.”
