Jason Momoa Cast As Lobo In Upcoming Supergirl Film

Popular actor Jason Momoa is set to return to James Gunn’s new DC cinematic universe in a new role. According to Deadline, Momoa has been cast to play the deadly intergalactic bounty hunter and antihero Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Despite Momoa playing Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s DC Extended Universe, his casting as Lobo has been a long time coming for fans and the actor himself.

Following the news, in an Instagram post, Momoa shared a quote from a past interview comment expressing how long he had hoped for the role with the caption, “They called.”

“I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but [he] was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,'” the quote read.

“I mean, listen, If they call and ask me, it’s a f*ck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play or ask me to audition, I’m there.” The quote concluded.

Momoa’s casting as Lobo has been widely accepted by fans, with many agreeing that he was the perfect pick for the role. The production for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins January 13, 2025. Based on the Tom King comic series of the same name, the film was written by Ana Nogueira and directed by Craig Gillespie.

Gillespie’s previous work includes Dumb Money, Cruella I and II, and I, Tonya. Kara Zor El/Supergirl is played by Milly Alcock, and the film’s main villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills, is set to be played by Matthias Schoenaerts.

While the film’s plot is still unknown, it will likely focus on Supergirl’s struggle to adapt to Earth customs, her grief and anger over the loss of Krypton, and her initial mission to raise Superman, as she did in the comic the film is based on.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be released on June 26, 2026.
