After a disappointing loss to the division rival Bills on Monday Night Football, the Jets needed to make a big move in order to turn their season around. And yesterday morning they did just that. New York traded a conditional third-round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for superstar wide receiver Davante Adams.
Adams had been rumored to be interested in joining the Jets due to his relationship with Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers and Adams played with each other for 8 years with the Green Bay Packers and were widely considered one of the most dangerous QB-WR duos in the league. Davante Adams left the Packers in 2022 due to uncertainty that Rodgers would be staying with the Packers. He instead joined the Las Vegas Raiders to play with then-starting QB Derek Carr, who Adams played college ball with.
Now with Carr in New Orleans and Rodgers in the Big Apple, Adams was stuck in a sticky situation with a massive contract. With LV struggling to start, he told the Raiders earlier in the season that he would prefer to be traded. The Raiders had plenty of suitors for the talented wide receiver and the Jets ended up winning the sweepstakes. Reuniting him with Aaron Rodgers.
During Adams’ time in Green Bay with A-Rod as his quarterback he accounted for 7,590 yards receiving and 69 touchdowns. He caught 622 passes from Rodgers which is the most of any receiver to play alongside the future Hall of Famer.
After the news broke, Aaron Rodgers joined The Pat McAfee Show, when asked about this trade he said, “Obviously, I’m really excited, love Tae, he’s a phenomenal player and a dear friend.” Then abruptly Adams snuck into the background of Rodger’s Zoom call and was welcomed by applause. He kept it even simpler saying, “We’re back man, we’re back”.
Despite a hamstring injury that has kept him out multiple weeks, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich says Davante Adams will play in the Jets’ Sunday Night Football matchup against the Steelers.
