Jurassic World Needs to Stop Trying

The trailer for the upcoming movie Jurassic World: Rebirth has been bouncing around my head for a while. Whenever I first saw the title drop for the movie at the end of the trailer, I had only one cynical question lingering with me: Are people still watching these?  

Counting all the movies set in this universe, there have been six movies released, with this one set to become the seventh. I think this movie will likely be the last one due to the growing disinterest from the audience. In the beginning, the idea of reviving this classic series of dinosaur encounters and thrilling moments was enough to make anyone excited. The first Jurassic World movie was an overall success, being a good time and providing enough to interest people in another installment. However, Fallen Kingdom is when the cracks began to form for the franchise. 

The shaky character development and the cartoonish plot made for a movie that didn’t know if it should take itself seriously or not. The similarities it had with the old trilogy were also starting to get tiring, leaving most not very interested in the story’s continuation. The third movie sealed the deal for the people that stuck around, being only good for cheap nostalgia and the wasted potential of dinosaurs and humans coexisting out in the world. Although these movies did fine financially, the reputation of the series has been somewhat tarnished. 

The trailers for Rebirth haven’t shown anything different and have replaced its original cast with a whole new lineup. As much as I would want this movie to surprise me and be great, I’m not very confident that it will. The series needs to stop pushing out films and let the franchise take a breather. Maybe then, people will get excited about their films like they once did.
