Kamala Harris to Release “107 Days,” a Memoir of the Shortest Campaign in Modern History

Kamala Harris announced today she will release a book titled, “107 Days,” detailing her journey as a presidential candidate in the 2024 election. The announcement comes just one day after she published a statement saying she will not run for governor of California, which is a move many view as an opening for a potential 2028 presidential campaign, although this has not been confirmed by Harris.

“For now,” her statement read, “My leadership–and public service–will not be in elected office. I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans.”

“107 Days,” releasing Sept. 23, draws its title from the length of Harris’s campaign, the shortest in modern history. On July 21, 2025, former President Joe withdrew his reelection bid and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee. Just over a year after she launched her campaign, she announced this memoir.

“Since leaving office I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days,” Harris said in a video statement, “I believe there’s value in sharing what I saw, what I learned and what I know it will take to move forward.”

Harris said this book is almost like a diary during her time of reflection. It will offer insight on the high pressure running such a short, and meaningful, campaign has. She described that time in the video as “intense, high stakes and deeply personal for me and for so many of you.”

Publishing company, Simon & Schuster, describes the book as “a page-turning novel,” saying that it explores the presidential race “as no one has ever done before.”

The title of “107 Days” doesn’t just detail the duration of her campaign, but also the movement that was made. So many dismissed her campaign as a failure when she was not elected, but forgot to acknowledge how powerful it was considering the brevity. By focusing in on the timeline, which the title does, Harris is able to reframe the narrative to be not of loss but resilience.

The timing of this release, especially with how recent she announced her decision not to run for governor, suggests some political strategy – almost a soft launch for a potential 2028 campaign. It is a way for Harris to test public opinion of her, and to possibly change it, if she does choose to run for president again.

“107 Days” will also be a way for her to secure her legacy and take control of her story. By offering insight into the efforts she made, Harris will get the last word.

“Sometimes the fight takes a while,” Harris said, “I will never stop fighting to make our country reflect the very best of its ideals, always on behalf of the people.”

“107 Days” is now available for pre-order wherever books are sold, and will officially hit bookstores on Sept. 23.
