When it comes to many all-stars in sports, their future is usually something that is planned a few years in advance. However, for Karl-Anthony Towns, his future with the Knicks has been undetermined for quite some time. With how things stand, it is easy to assume that he will likely be traded when his contract with the Knicks comes to an end.
Towns is an exceptional player. He is not the best defensive player, but he makes up for it with good shooting averages and consistent spacing that allows other players to make shots as well. His time with the Knicks has overall been good, but many believe that his time with them should come to an end. There were talks about Towns getting an extension on his contract with the Knicks, but right now, it seems like that isn’t happening.
After two more years, the Knicks might try to use Towns to get a good trade, which I must admit, would be a good move. Again, Towns is a good player, but I don’t think he is at the level that the Knicks would need to make their championship team that they desperately want. If anything, Towns might be a good part of a trade for someone like Giannis Antetokounmpo or even Kevin Durant. At this time, there has been nothing made official about where Towns might be going, but it’s unlikely that he will stay with the Knicks longer than what his contract says. No matter where he goes, there is no doubt that he will miss his time with the Knicks, and I hope the best for him.
