New York City was met with a horrific scene as a plane crashed into a fire truck on March 22, 2026. The truck was headed to examine another plane after reports of it having an alleged “odor” when it collided with the Air Canada flight AC8646. The destructive collision cost the lives of two pilots and injured several of the passengers that boarded the plane.
There was an audio recording found where one member from the LaGuardia air traffic control could be heard trying to prevent the collision by urging the plane to stop—however nothing could prevent the crash that resulted in the casualties of the two plane operators. A witness reported that the crash was so bad that it seemed like “the plane got cut in half” according to BBC. Fortunately, no passengers were killed in the incident but many are being treated for their injuries. A whopping 41 people were injured, with at least 10 of those people being seriously injured as a result of the event. The officials who rode in the fire truck were reported to be in stable condition. LaGuardia Airport was forced to shut down after the tragic incident occurred.
There is an ongoing investigation taking place to see what caused the crash. The speed of the plane alongside who was operating it will be taken into consideration when uncovering the fine details of the incident. It is also being investigated if any passengers were potentially hurled from the plane as a result. Officials are continuing to put their best foot forward to figure out what went wrong and how to resolve the issue so that it does not transpire again in the future.
One of the biggest subjects of discourse was the plane being potentially understaffed. According to Margaret Wallace, a staff member at a Florida institution, having only one person control different positions on a plane is not an uncommon occurrence. She stated that having only one person to control both air traffic and ground traffic is not the best option for operating a plane safely, citing it as a possible cause of the tragedy that ensued during the late evening Sunday.
NTSB will also be in contact with several officials as they will perform their own investigation to get to the bottom of the situation. The identities of the two men who were killed have yet to be released, but officials are doing everything they can to get more information.
