LeBron James Extends Contract with The Lakers

LeBron James has extended his contract with The Los Angeles Lakers. According to NBA.com, James agreed to a two-year extension worth $104 million with a no-trade clause.

The deal is reportedly the maximum he could get with the Lakers. The exact amount James will be receiving is unknown. However, ESPN has alleged it will be slightly less than the maximum $104 million.

James is only one of two NBA players with contracts with no-trade clauses. Additionally, James likely earned an additional $50 million, which could make him the first player in NBA history to make over $500 million.

It was also reported that James had attempted to bring others into the team, particularly, Klay Thompson or DeMar DeRozan. Unfortunately, it seems that his attempts were for nothing. Thompson has reportedly opted to join the Dallas Mavericks alongside Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic. As for DeRozan, he has remained unsigned.

In addition to his new contract, James has seen other accomplishments, from himself and his family in recent months. James became the first player to make 20 All-Star teams and became the NBA’s all-time leader in postseason points scored and is in the top 10 in rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, 3-pointers made, and free throws.

James’ son Bronny James Jr. Will also be joining his father in the Lakers’

As the 55th selection in this year’s draft. According to ESPN, his rookie contract will last four years and be worth around $7.9 million. Both Bronny James and his father will be the first father-son duo to play in the same NBA team in the league’s history.

“When I think about the Los Angeles Lakers, I think about a franchise where basketball history unfolds and takes place,” said Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka. “In the history of the NBA, there’s never been a father and a son that have shared an NBA basketball court. That feels like something that could be magical.”

Outside of his contracts, it’s alleged that James is still in talks with the Lakers. Reports say James could potentially leave the Lakers around $1 million to help the team retain “roster-building flexibility.”
