Led Zeppelin was a incredibly popular English rock band. Formed in London from a previous band called The New Yard Birds, the band consisted of vocalist Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page, bassist-keyboardist John Paul Jones and drummer John Bonham.
Prior to their transition to Led Zeppelin, the band acquired a contract with Atlantic Records which gave them autonomy on how their band would be run including album releases, tour dates and more.
Led Zeppelin’s self titled debut album released at the beginning of 1969, peaking at number 10 on the Billboard chart and at number 6 in the UK. The bands second album would mark the bands transition from blues rock to heavy metal.
The band toured anywhere and everywhere from clubs and ballrooms, and with concerts that lasted up to four hours. By 1970, the band had shot up to be one of the many global superstars, cemented by their fourth album Led Zeppelin IV selling over 37 million copies.
