Lola Young is a famous English musician, best known for her song, Messy, which went viral across social media. Her work often centers on themes of social relationships and past partners, featuring references to mental health disorders, drug abuse, and sexual orientation.

Young was born on January 4, 2001, in Croydon, South London. She was raised in Beckenham alongside 3 sisters. She began writing songs when she was just 11 and was performing solo at open mic nights by the age of 14. She gained public attention in January 2016 after winning the under-16 category of the Open Mic UK singing competition. Her popularity continued to grow after she reached the final round of the British TV talent show Got What It Takes?. Young met her would-be manager, Nick Shymansky, after a performance at The Bedford in Balham. Shortly after, Young was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder at the age of 17.

In October 2019, Young released her debut single, 6 Feet Under, with her full album Intro releasing later that same year. Her second album, Renaissance, was released in April 2020, with her third album, After Midnight, coming out the following March. As she continued to release music, she was invited to perform on many TV shows. Her cover of Together in Electric Dreams was even used in a John Lewis Christmas advertisement.

Young continued to release singles throughout late 2023 and early 2024, including her best-known song, Messy. The song went viral on TikTok and immediately appeared on many music charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles chart. Her next two albums, This Wasn’t Meant for You Anyway and I’m Only F**king Myself, were released with similar results.

She was nominated for the 2026 Grammy Awards for Best New Artist and won Best Pop Solo Performance for her song Messy. She also won the 2026 Brit Award for British Breakthrough Artist.
