Long Island Officers Perform One of the Biggest Drugs in the City’s History

Long Island witnessed one of its largest cases of drug trafficking in an incident that occurred on February 3, 2026 in Nassau County where police stopped a pickup truck that was suspected as the site of a drug deal. Officers arrived at the parking lot of a Holiday Inn where they caught sight of two individuals reportedly carrying drugs in the trunk of their vehicle. When the officers opened the trunk, they spotted what looked to be more than 300 kilos of cocaine in the back, an absurdly high amount that the city has rarely even seen before.

Daniel Santana and Michael Viera were both charged with drug possession after the incident. However, the district attorney is looking to pursue greater charges for potential drug trafficking. The amount of cocaine found in the car leads most to believe that the drug deal did not stop here and that there were more connections and drug trafficking networks that have yet to be discovered. To make matters worse, Santana and Viera were already facing murder charges in their homeland, Puerto Rico. The two men decided to plead not guilty to the drug charges as the investigation is still ongoing.

Police are interested in investigating where the drugs came from and where they were being distributed to. Many suspect that this is a massive drug bust that prevented a wide range drug trafficking scandal. The amount of cocaine discovered could have been worth over 20 million dollars and would have made Santana and Viera a fortune. The police officers were praised for their vigilance and ability to spot the clues that lead them to catching the individuals behind the cocaine possession. Bruce Blakeman expressed his deep gratitude for the officers and claimed that they saved the lives of many through their arrests.

This incident displays the harsh reality of the drug epidemic throughout the U.S. It is unclear where the chain started, but it is very apparent how severe drug trafficking has become and how discreet individuals are when performing drug deals. However, through the alertness of law enforcement, one can ensure that the epidemic will stop its spread, at least for a little while as they continue to search for where these operations originated.
