Poems from Cassidy Paredes

Love’s First Look

by

First it was a look,
Then a stare across the room,
Before mustering up all my courage
To go over and say hi to you.

I remember the butterflies—
I still get them today,
Every time my eyes land
On your handsome, loving face.

Our story started out as friends,
Before growing into something more.
From driving halfway across the city to see you,
To cross-country trips and long distance calls.

Through thick and thin
You’ve been by my side.
You still are, and always will be.
Me too, mi amor.

How could I have known that’s love first look
Would turn into this beautiful dream:
House, dog, baby, happiness, and
Continued cherished memories.

My first love, my everything,
my husband, my best friend—
Almost ten years down,
Here’s to our love never finding an end.
