Athlete of the Month for August 2025
Emmanuel Dapidran Pacquiao Sr. aka Manny Pacquiao is a Filipino politician, businessman, and professional boxer. Born in Kibawe, Philippines, Pacquiao lived on the streets in Manila at age fourteen, three years after his parents divorce. He had ocmpleted his education up until highschool, where he dropped out due to his poor financial situation.
Pacquiao was introduced to boxing at a young age by his uncle, who then began training Pacquiao in his home gym. Shortly after, Pacquiao began traveling to other cities in the Philippines to fight in rings, eventually becoming one of the best junior boxers in the southern Philippines.
His first major title, World Boxing Council flyweight title. was won when he was age 19. Throughout the 2000s Pacquiao became a prolific fighter across the globe. Throughout his career, he has defeated 22 world champions, including Lehlohonolo Ledwaba, Jorge Eliécer Julio, Marco Antonio Barrera, Érik Morales, Óscar Larios, and many more.
In addition to being named Fighter of the Decade by organizations including the Boxing Writers Association of America, World Boxing Council, World Boxing Organization, and Home Box Office, he holds six Guinness Book of World Records titles. Some include having the most consecutive boxing world title fight victories at different weights, being the oldest welterweight boxing world champion, having the most boxing world titles won in different weight divisions, and more.
Outside of boxing, Pacquino has had a lengthy career in politics, serving in the Philippine House of Representatives, Senate, and even a presidential campaign.
