Originally born Micah Davis in Kingston, Jamaica, Masego grew up in Newport News, Virginia, where he found his love for music in the church. Although he says he had a very sheltered life and wasn’t able to listen to hip-hop, he later grew up listening to it on YouTube as he says, “YouTube taught me everything I know.” It wasn’t until he went off to college that he truly blossomed musically. He participated in local open mic nights and freestyle in his dorm in his free time. Although he felt most comfortable hiding behind his instruments, he felt like his sound was missing something. That is when he turned to his voice. From there, his signature sound was born. He began playing his saxophone and began scatting and rapping over it.

His sound is heavily influenced by trap, Caribbean styles, electric piano funk, and more somber textures. His jazzy, upbeat, funky sound is what drew in a plethora of different artists’ features across many genres.

Since then, Masego has had the opportunity of working with prominent DJs and artists like Jill Scott, Thundercat, J Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, GoldLink, etc., and has released over three albums, Two of which have his greatest hits such as “Tadow,” “Mystery Lady,” and “Old Age.”
