Some NBA players can say that they’ve never scored at least 40 points in a game. Most NBA players will say that they’ve never come close to 60 points in a single game, and before last night, only two NBA players could say that they’ve reached over 80 points in a single contest—that is, until Bam Adebayo had the night of his life scoring a whopping 83 points against the Washington Wizards.
That’s right, 83 points. It’s almost unheard of for a player to score even close to 60 points—unless your name is Wilt Chamberlain, of course—but it seems like the Miami Heat center could do no wrong in last night’s game. Adebayo had an almost perfect performance against the Wizards as he shot for 46% from the field in 43 attempts and hit 7 three pointers, a stat that, years ago, would be quite an anomaly for any player in the center or power forward position.
Adebayo scored a remarkable 31 points in the first quarter alone, a stat that is 2-3 times more than the amount of points most elite players average per quarter. He remained consistent on offense throughout the contest, recording 12 points in the second quarter, 19 points in the third quarter, and 21 points in the fourth quarter. He played a total of 41 minutes and averaged 2 points per minute, scoring over half of the team’s total points. The center booked a spot in history as he recorded the second-most points in a single game, passing Kobe Bryant’s iconic 81-point performance, and placing himself directly under Wilt Chamberlain who scored a total of 100 points in just one contest. Adebayo’s brilliant efforts led the Heat to a 150-129 victory over the Wizards in a high-quality offensive affair.
The Heat move on to a 37-29 record and are currently the sixth-seed in the East. They face the Milwaukee Bucks next as their home stretch continues.
Adebayo will be looking to continue his strong season as he has averaged 20 points per game and almost 10 rebounds per game. The center hopes to maintain the momentum that he gained against the Wizards in his future games in order to push the Miami Heat one step closer to making it to the postseason and potentially lifting the trophy at the end of the year.
