Music Artists Should Follow The Example Of SZA And Sabrina Carpenter Against The Trump Administration

The Trump Administration is no stranger to drawing ire from celebrities from the American entertainment industry, but its recent posts on X/Twitter have drawn a firestorm. The social media page for the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had drawn eyes due to using music from popular music artists in their promotional videos. These artists include Sabrina Carpenter and SZA, who were unsurprisingly vocal against ICE using their music.

Their anger at the Trump Administration was well-received, one that many have urged more artists to replicate if something similar happens to them. It is a glaring change in how people interact with entertainment and politics. More and more people are expecting significant figures in pop culture to be more vocal about events happening in the world.

With the Trump administration taking a hammer to much of the checks and balances within the United States, many people have become disillusioned with fighting back using civil measures. Pop culture has always had a significant voice in changing public opinion, and so more people are choosing to make their voice heard through vetting the figures they put their admiration towards.

People are no longer willing to look over the beliefs of certain figures and are willing to pull their support, especially if it compromises their values. Sabrina Carpenter and SZA managed to cement their image against the actions of ICE and the Trump administration with their callouts and thus have gained the admiration of fans and soon-to-be fans globally.

While some might say that staying silent might be better, in an attempt not to draw attention, calling these actions out makes it so that it stays in public discourse and does not normalize it.
