Poems from Cassidy Paredes

New Year

by

New year, new me…
Just not in the way I once hoped
At the beginning of 2025.

New year, but no better—
Disappointed and grieving.
Last year put us through the wringer.

New year, and I’m broken
From the losses and woes
That hit me like a freight train.

New year, and I’m just surviving…
But even in the pain,
I can find some small gratitude

In the new year, new beginnings.
More time to cherish
What won’t be there forever.

New year, and that’s what I’ll dwell on.
Things don’t stay the same forever,
Even when you wish they would.

New year, and life moves on
Too fast, so grab it while you can.
Because who knows who you’ll be

Next new year.

Ded. Growth, change, and ever-present grief
