New York’s Mayoral Race Continues

Throughout the past few weeks, the citizens of New York have been constantly fighting over the mayoral elections and who will lead the city. The primary day has come, and many voters have begun rushing to turn in their ballots for the many candidates this year. Amongst the Democratic Party, it seems that the ideal candidate will be a close call.

The Republican Party has always struggled in this left-leaning state, and recent controversies have left them in a less-than-ideal position. The two main contenders that everyone has their eyes on are Andrew Cuomo and Zohran Mamdani. These two are leading the charge as the Democrat’s top choices, but they are strikingly different from one another.

Andrew Cuomo is a former governor and is a long-standing member of the Democratic Party. His ideologies are seen as moderate, and he is often supported by older voters. Mamdani is a democratic socialist who has gained massive support from the progressive wing of the party. He is a candidate who has quickly gotten people’s attention with his desire for massive changes. Although these two have similar end goals for the future of the city, their main differences are shown through the methods they employ.

Andrew’s main argument about why he is the better choice is that his experience as governor will help guide the city more smoothly. Zohran is mainly focused on making things more affordable within the city, like freezing the rent and making bus rides free. Although both contenders have good points, it seems that the choice of candidate will dramatically alter the efforts that the city will make to improve lives. In the end, this only further highlights the importance of voting and letting your voice be heard before it’s too late!
