Nick Brandt is an influential English photographer. Born and raised in London, England, Brant cultivated a passion for art into his studies while attending Saint Martin’s School of Art for painting and film.

Following his graduation Brandt began work filming music videos. Many of his videos became critically acclaimed including the music video for the hit Michael Jackson track Earth Song. It was while filming this video when Brandt developed at love for the environment and wildlife in East Africa and decided that he could use photography as a better way of capturing them.

Brandt channeled his environmental activism into his photography, showcasing the environmental degradation occurring around the most vulnerable people and animals in nature starting with his first project On This Earth in 2001.

He released the sequel to this project in 2009 and the final third installment in 2013, this trilogy documented the environmental strife riddled throughout East African countries.

Alongside his photography, Brandt’s philanthropy concerning the environment led him and Richard Bonham to co-found he non-profit organization Big Life Foundation, which dedicates itself to the conservation of Africa’s wildlife and ecosystems.

Currently, the organization employs several hundred rangers protecting to protect around approximately 2 million acres of land.
