Flashback Athlete of the Month for Decemmber 2025

Bio

Nicholas Allan Mangold was an American professional football player. Growing up in Centerville, Ohio, Mangold played a variety of sports in highschool including football, wrestling and track and field. Mangold excelled at both offensive and defense in football, and went on to grow a college football career at Ohio State University.

Mangold’s skill led to him be a major asset to the college team, earning an All-Big Ten Conference Honorable Mention honors in 2004, being named Offensive Lineman of the Week seven times and Offensive Player of the Week against the Northwestern Wildcats. Mangold’s performance led him to be one of the most sought after top center in the 2006 NFL draft, where he was selected by the New York Jets.

Mangold played for the Jets until 2016, earning numerous honors during his career, including a New York Jets Ring of Honor, two First-team All-Pro selections, a second-team All-Pro selection, and seven Pro Bowl selections. A year later, Mangold would step away from football until announcing his retirement in 2018.

After his retirement, Mangold would coach youth football and even appeared on numerous television and radio shows until his untimely death in 2025.
