Nintendo’s Switch 2 Infuriates Consumers with Price

The Nintendo Direct occurred a few days ago now, and it has gotten a ton of people talking about it. The biggest discussion is about the Switch 2, which was announced to be released on June 5th this year. However, the main thing people are discussing is not the new features of this console, but rather the steep cost that fans will have to pay to get in on the action.

The retail price of the Switch 2 is going to be four hundred and fifty dollars, which is far more expensive than the previous Switch. Not only that, but the games for the console will be eighty dollars digital and ninety dollars physical, making it half a grand to purchase and play one game. That is not to mention having to pay extra for Nintendo Online, which is needed to enhance most of the multiplayer games. The worry for GTA 6 seems to be well warranted.

Some might argue that the cost of the new Switch and games is justified, given how Nintendo always had better quality control than other game companies. However, that does not excuse the fact that the Switch is intended to be a console with families in mind. Good luck trying to persuade a mother to spend so much on a seemingly smaller product.

Game companies are getting way too comfortable with exploiting their customers with more overpriced products. I have no doubt that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be as amazing as it is presented, but I can see only hardcore gamers or fans buying the console right away, while everyone else waits until it goes on sale. I think it will end up being a detriment to Nintendo’s bottom line if the prices are kept like this. The new Mario Kart title looks great, but it is not worth ninety dollars.
