Streaming services have become the norm for most kinds of media in this
modern age. People now prefer to have a large category to pick from,
rather than having individual copies to own for themselves. Music is no
stranger to streaming, with Spotify being the most popular choice to listen
to music on the go or at home. While the app is free to download and use,
the constant question of “Want a break from the ads?” is enough to tempt
users to splurge for the premium version. However, is the premium worth
the paid subscription?
There is no doubt that this paid version of the app has its advantages. The
main perk that Premium boasts loud and clear is the removal of ads in
between songs. This is enough for many to pay a premium, as listening to
ads can be annoying. Premium also sports other bells and whistles, like
being able to listen to songs offline, exclusive access to various podcasts
and events, better audio quality, etc. As someone who has experienced
both versions of Spotify, I can attest that the change feels like night and
day.
Of course, the fact that it is a monthly paid subscription is what mainly
determines if it’s worth the money. The standard pay for an individual is
twelve dollars a month, which can be a significant request. That amount
can get you access to other services that are arguably more entertaining,
like Netflix or Hulu. Not only that, but the ads on Spotify are not frequent
and only appear every 30 minutes or so.
At the very least, I would recommend new users to try out the free trial of
premium and see if the difference is worth paying for. While I do think that
it’s a much better experience, I also think that you should only get it if you
make constant use of music.
