Fashion is a consistent cycle of trends. With each season comes a new trending style and outfit options we just cannot wait to get our hands on. Whether it be the hottest top, the most fitting pair of trends, or the perfect shoe, brands take our money constantly in order for us to keep up with every new style. As fun and exciting as trends can be, these new styles do not always make everyone happy.
Every single person is different when it comes to fashion. We each have our own favorite colors to wear and preferences as to what our outfits look like. As social media has become more prevalent in the world, especially with platforms such as Pinterest or TikTok, there is the constant battle of ensuring we are matching the current trend. Just because one style is trending, does not mean that every individual in the fashion world is going to approve. It also does not mean that all the trending styles match each individual’s aesthetic.
A major component is that not everyone feels comfortable wearing certain things. Fully denim outfits have been trending for a while now, and the jean shops could not be more thrilled. Though denim outfits look amazing, denim can be hard for many people. Finding the perfect size of jeans, or any denim-based article of clothing, is a struggle for a lot of us. When the trend takes over the world, we find ourselves forcing uncomfortableness upon us to make sure we match our Pinterest board aesthetic.
This can apply to a majority of the fashion we see trending online–crop tops, mini skirts, kitten heels. Oftentimes we forget that fashion is equally as exciting as it can be stressful. Making sure everything fits right, and that we feel confident in ourselves, can cause anxiety when shopping or getting ready. Confidence is the important element within fashion, as without it, we are not doing ourselves or our outfits any justice.
Trends are never going to go away. As social media continues to grow, trends and viral outfits will surround our feeds. While there is absolutely no problem with following a trend, the problem lies within us forcing ourselves to wear certain pieces just because we want to ‘fit in.’ Fashion is personal, and our own style is a piece of our personality. If everyone looked and dressed the same, fashion would be boring. Uniqueness is the fun in fashion, not trends and following the rules.
