Op-Ed: Butter Yellow and Cherry Red Are In, Sunset Orange is Out

Every season, a few colors trend more than others in fashion. We’ve seen sunset orange and sage green in previous seasons, but get ready to see a lot more butter yellow and cherry red this season.

Butter yellow is a soft, creamy shade of yellow that brings elegance and sophistication. You might’ve seen celebrities such as Sabrina Carpenter rocking butter yellow. Carpenter wore a cute butter yellow heart-cutout minidress, embracing this season’s signature color.

The butter-yellow shade is different from the previous years of neon and bright yellows; it’s a more subtle way to add brightness to your outfits. Stores like Princess Polly offer many butter yellow pieces including more mini dresses that are perfect for the spring. If you want more elegant butter yellow dresses, check out Meshki and their one shoulder maxi butter yellow  dresses.

On the other side of the spectrum, we have cherry red making waves as a statement color. Cherry red is a captivating color, its bold, lively, striking and full of seductive energy. Similar to burgundy and red wine, cherry red is sure to make you pop out at any event. If you’re looking for more cherry-red clothing, check out Pacsun and Zara.

Who even chooses the fashion colors of the season? Several factors determine fashion color trends, and you’ll be shocked to know that there are even trend forecasting agencies, such as Pantone and the International Colour Authority (ICA), that work on determining the following possible trending colors. Of course, celebrity influence is a big factor in trending fashion colors, too, especially at significant events like the MET Gala, Oscars, or Grammys.

This season, get your wardrobe ready with cherry red and butter yellow, or stand out from the trend and choose your own statement colors; either way, make sure you’re rocking it.
