Oprah Announces Latest Book Club Picks

Media tycoon and beloved household name Oprah Winfrey has released her list of favorite books of 2024. A whopping 109 titles earned the coveted honor of “Oprah’s Book Club Pick. ” From classics to new releases, there is something for everyone on Oprah’s list!

Since 1996, Oprah has released a yearly list of favorite books that spark conversation, introspection, and delight for all kinds of readers. This year, Oprah chose two nonfiction reads that left her reexamining some of history’s most famous people and events. One such book was From Here to the Great Unknown by Lisa Marie Presley and Riley Keough. Sharing the experiences of her late mother’s tortured yet privileged life as the only child of Elvis Presley, the book switches between letters left behind by Lisa Marie Presley after her death and analysis from the one person who knew her best – her daughter.

Her other nonfiction pick was The Many Lives of Mama Love by Lara Love Hardin. In this memoir, Love Hardin recounts her experiences after facing 32 felony charges for stealing money from her neighbors to feed her heroin addiction. A story of survival, love, and forgiveness, Mama Love is a heartbreaking story of the woman who became a mother to her fellow inmates.

At the top of Oprah’s list is the short novel Small Things Like These, which inspired a movie starring Cillian Murphy. Small Things Like These takes place in a humble Irish town in 1985, just before Christmas. When a coal merchant makes an alarming discovery, he is forced to examine his morals and those of the village around him. With a setting that serves as an additional character, this cozy read is perfect for an evening curled up with a blanket.

Like many readers, Oprah is always a fan of a good mystery. One of her favorites this year was Tell Me Everything, a novel by Elizabeth Strout that brings readers back into the world of some of her most beloved characters, including Lucy Barton and Olive Kitteridge. “There’s love, heartbreak, and even possible murder – it’s the perfect read for this fall season,” Oprah said.

With many more great novels to check out, Oprah’s book club picks of 2024 are officially out on her website.
