Paramore to feature on tribute album for A24’s ‘Stop Making Sense’ restoration

Watch out! A24 and Paramore on Wednesday teased a tribute album to follow the studio’s restoration of the Talking Heads concert film “Stop Making Sense.”

The album will feature a total of 16 artists – the rest yet to be revealed – covering tracks from the band’s 1984 live album of the same name. The teaser sees Paramore’s Hayley Williams cut open a box, revealing a replica of David Byrne’s gray suit jacket from the original album’s cover art. It concludes with a sneak peak at Paramore’s “Burning Down the House” cover.

“We’ve got a tape we’d like to play you,” A24 said in social media posts about the album.

A24 acquired the distribution rights to “Stop Making Sense” last year and released a restored version theatrically in September for its 40th anniversary, making $640,839 from 165 Imax locations across North America – Imax’s most successful live event ever.

The original 1984 film was directed by “Silence of the Lambs” filmmaker Jonathan Demme, with live performances shot over the course of three nights at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater the year before. It features some of the Talking Heads’ greatest hits, such as“Psycho Killer” and “This Must Be the Place.” With a 100% Rotten Tomatoes critic score from 68 reviews and a National Society of Film Critics Award for best non-fiction film, it is widely held as one of the greatest concert films of all time.

Paramore recently made headlines for wiping much of their social media blank to commemorate the expiration of their 20-year contract with Atlantic Records. The “Stop Making Sense” teaser is currently the only post on the band’s Instagram.
