Planet Hollywood Reopens in Manhattan

Planet Hollywood reopened in Manhattan last weekend after closing during COVID.

Planet Hollywood is a movie-themed restaurant chain with four locations. The restaurant has opened and closed in hundreds of different locations, yet only four remain, one of which just reopened at 136 West 42nd Street in Midtown.

The restaurant cost a whopping $17 million to restore and reopen, but it doesn’t showcase any of the old movie memorabilia it used to have.

The New York Post reported that the main attraction of the new restaurants is the high-resolution screens covering every wall, which play movies, music videos, and fun videos featuring the diners themselves

Not only will the walls be screens, but the technology will also cover the ceilings and floors, immersing customers in whatever is on screen.

Planet Hollywood was founded by Robert Earl, owner of Earl Enterprises Corporation. The first Planet Hollywood restaurant opened in 1991, and it partnered with actors Demi Moore, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, and Sylvester Stallone.

In the 1990s, Planet Hollywood operated over 60 locations globally, but the company filed for bankruptcy in 1999. Since then, the number of operating locations has kept decreasing, so the revival of Planet Hollywood in Manhattan brings a wave of nostalgia.

The new restaurant is one of a kind and will be open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
