The 2025 Grammy Awards will honor several musicians and artists for their contributions to music throughout their lifetimes. The shortlist for the latest group of honorees includes mostly under-recognized artists, with one exception – Prince.
Prince won seven Grammys throughout his career and had three albums inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Despite the Lifetime Achievement Award typically recognizing those who garnered much fewer accolades, the artist is set to be recognized post-harmoniously to honor his music’s impact on the world. Other 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award winners include Frankie Beverly, The Clash, Bobby Jones, Taj Mahal, Roxanne Shante, and Frankie Valli.
Many consider Prince one of the most excellent musicians of all time. Before he died in 2016, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2006, and the Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame in 2016. He also won seven Grammys, seven Brit Awards, six American Music Awards, four MTV VMAs, an Academy Award, and a Golden Globe.
Prince broke onto the music scene in the late 1970s and early 1980s. He impressed music fans worldwide with his flamboyant and androgynous style, wide vocal range, and high-pitched screams. He often showcased his impressive range and falsetto on tracks like “Purple Rain” and “Partyup.” Prince also made an effort to showcase his skills as an instrumentalist. He performed all the instruments on the track for most of his music.
Throughout his career, Prince turned heads. Whether it was for dating Madonna or changing his name to a symbol – and requiring all radio DJs to refer to him as “The artist formerly known as Prince” – he was always on the cutting edge of fashion and style trends. Nearly a decade after his death, Prince continues to inspire some of the most prominent musicians of the day and cement his legacy in history. The Grammy’s will honor him with the award on February 1, the night before the official 2025 ceremony.
