Zorhan Mamdani shocked the world with his success during the Democratic Primary for the upcoming New York City Mayor race in June. Three months later, a recent poll has revealed that Mamdani’s favorability has held steady amongst the public, and may have even grown.
According to Politico, the New York Times/Siena College’s poll revealed that 46 percent of likely voters said they would vote for Mamdani, while 24 percent of voters said they would support former governor Andrew Cuomo. Eric Adams achieved 9 percent of support from voters, while Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa had 15 percent of support. Independent runner Jim Walden received only 1 percent support.
Politico noted that the poll was conducted from a pool of 1,284 citizens from New York City from Sept. 2-6. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
This follows the stir up that Mamdani created in his surprise win during the primary. The mayoral candidate is finding success with younger voters this election, who Mamdani won over by speaking about the lack of affordability within the city. That said, older voters, businessmen, and developers have notably come out to support other candidates like Cuomo.
Unsurprisingly, there continues to be a large effort to combat Mamdani in the lead-up to the upcoming Mayoral election later this year. President Trump has been outspoken in his support of Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo, while New York’s top Democrats have continued to withhold endorsements from Mamdani.
