Flashback Artist of the Month for December 2025
Samuel Robert Rivers was an influential American indie rock musician and backing vocalist. Born in Jacksonville, Florida, developed an interest in music at a young age and started playing the tuba in middle school. Rivers began playing the guitar in high school before switching to playing bass after his music teacher suggested it.
Rivers met Fred Durst during his job at a Chick-fil-A and bonded over various interests, including music. After multiple jam sessions, Rivers, Durst, and several other people formed the band Malachi Sage, which only lasted a short while.
After Malachi Sage disbanded, Rivers and Durst tried again and formed Limp Bizkit in 1994. The band went on to be one of the few pioneers in the Nu Metal genre alongside Deftones and Slipknot.
Outside of the band, Rivers was involved with the Sleepkillers band and released a debut album in 2019. Rivers continued to perform alongside Limp Bizkit until he died in October 2025.
