The Republican response to the State of the Union Address took place in an eerily empty, dark kitchen, delivered by Alabama Senator Katie Britt. Britt wears a green dress reminiscent of the green gowns the wives wear in The Handmaid’s Tale and speaks with a terrifying intonation and zealous rigor. Unblinking, Britt’s entire argument is centered around traditional family values, outdated gender roles, misdirected anger, and the false implication that human sex trafficking took place at the border during the Biden administration.

“She had been sex-trafficked by the cartels starting at age 12. She told me not just that she was raped every day, but how many times a day she was raped,” Britt said, “We wouldn’t be OK with this happening in a Third World country. This is the United States of America, and it is past time, in my opinion, that we start acting like it.” She followed up this story by saying “President Biden’s border crisis is a disgrace.” However, these two events are not connected.

Journalist Jonathan Katz uploaded a video to TikTok soon after the address, explaining that he researched the case Britt speaks of and discovered that this incident did not happen under the Biden administration. It did not even occur in the United States. The trafficking occurred in Mexico during the George W. Bush administration.

“Instead of telling more debunked lies to justify opposing the toughest bipartisan border legislation in modern history, Senator Britt should stop choosing human smugglers and fentanyl traffickers over our national security and the Border Patrol Union,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates said in a statement, “Like President Biden said in his State of the Union, ‘We have a simple choice: We can fight about fixing the border or we can fix it.’”

If Britt truly cared about sex trafficking victims, she wouldn’t be an avid pro-lifer. Make no mistake, Britt supports legislation that would force a 12-year-old victim of rape to carry a child. She describes herself as a “mama on a mission,” and that mission is clearly one of promoting women’s silence and “tradwife” mentality.

Britt was viciously mocked in Scarlett Johanssen’s hilarious surprise cameo in an SNL skit; Johanssen delivered a pitch-perfect impression of the Republican Senator, emphasizing her bizarre demeanor, backward views on women’s rights, and the unsettling facial expression Britt displayed during her rebuttal. “You see, I’m not just a mother,” Johansson said, “I’m a wife, a mother, and the craziest b—h in the Target parking lot.” How are deranged people like Katie Britt being elected to Congress? Craziest b—h in the Target parking lot indeed.
