Star Wars fans are getting their fill of fun with theatres rerunning the third prequel movie that came out way back in 2005. With the famous movie series getting mixed reviews for their newer additions to the galaxy far away, it’s interesting to see that a rerun of an older movie can get an audience so excited. The reason for this might be more than just nostalgia.
Many people born in the early 2000s likely watched the Star Wars prequels as kids, forming an attachment to the hyperactive visuals and memorable fight scenes. At the time, the movies were not as loved by adult movie-goers and critics, who took issue with the messy writing, bad dialogue, and a plethora of other problems. Ironically, it’s because of these grievances that make these films fun, especially Revenge of the Sith. Most of the scenes are comedy gold and make for many memes that have been around ever since its initial release. It helps that the rise of Darth Vader is such an interesting moment to see. If the execution had been done better, the movie would have been the best one, displaying the dark places that someone will go through to protect their loved ones.
When it comes to the sequel trilogy, one word that describes the direction they took with the movies is “safe”. Most of the action and story aren’t all that different from similar action films. George Lucas might have gone too far in some areas, but he did make the prequels interesting. Only now do people see that those movies are as fun as they were when they were young and that putting on rose-colored glasses isn’t all a bad thing. Perhaps one day, the sequels will be revered the same way when enough time passes.
