I think that we can all agree that being a student is not easy. Whether you’re in middle school, high school, college, or at another level of higher education, being a student presents many challenges that don’t really come with an instruction manual on how to navigate. Instead, you’re presented with an end goal of passing, and that’s all, really, the direction in which one receives.
As a student myself in college, I understand the many, many, MANY challenges students face on a daily basis. With exams, projects, homework, and other assignments in between, balancing the responsibilities and expectations that come with being a student can be very stress-inducing for anyone. Wanting to provide some comfort and relief to this stress, I wanted to share some suggestions that help me whenever I become stressed due to school.
The first on my list is to get outside. While it may be hard now due to the cold weather, there is great value to be had in spending time in nature. Giving yourself a break from your assignments, going outside provides people the opportunity to unplug and focus on something else besides schoolwork. Spending even five minutes outside can boost your mood and provide you with a much-needed break from school responsibilities as a student.
If you cannot get outside, however, I would suggest listening to music. From the fast rapping of Bad Bunny or the sensual lyrics of Sabrina Carpenter, music can provide your brain with a boost of serotonin and dopamine to help raise your mood and lower anxiety and other negative emotions. Just like going outside, listening to your favorite song provides your brain the opportunity to focus on something else and allow it to rest, which, in turn, can aid your concentration and memory as well.
Lastly, I would suggest watching television. Whether you turn on your favorite episode of Rick and Morty or even kick back and relax with SpongeBob SquarePants, tuning in to watch your favorite television show can help you wind down and rest your brain from the stress of the day. Before I end this, your mental health and mental wellness are very important to take care of, just as you would for your physical health. You matter, and so do the feelings in which you are feeling, good or bad. Please be sure to take care of yourself so you can continue to be the best version of you!
