The Fate of Ophelia is the music video for the lead single of Taylor Swift’s twelfth studio album, The Life of a Showgirl. Initially released on October 3, the single describes a soulmate who saves Swift from a fate of dying similarly to Ophelia, a character from William Shakespeare’s Hamlet. The music video has visuals that seem to travel across time periods, but at the same time echo a motif from a painting depicting Ophelia’s death by German painter John Everett Millais.

Since its debut, the music video has garnered over 74 million views on YouTube.
