With Thanksgiving being just a day away, many Americans are getting prepared to reunite with their family and share a Thanksgiving dinner together. However, with Thanksgiving comes meeting your more unfamiliar family members and the dreaded “political” discussions.
This year, however, according to a recent poll of over a thousand Americans, most people are not very concerned about experiencing any political quarrels during Thanksgiving dinner. Based on the poll, only 11% of respondents are expecting a political argument, with over 30% only somewhat expecting a political discussion. This is down from previous years, which had a slightly higher expectation of political discussion during the holiday.
Interestingly, there is a noticeable difference in the number of expected fights depending on your side of the political line. Based on the study, 19% of Democrats are bracing for a political argument compared to the Republicans, who had 9% expecting a fight. While the majority are still not expecting a fight, it is surprising to see one side having double the number of expected fights over the other.
Overall, many Americans are expecting to have a peaceful Thanksgiving where they can reconnect with family and enjoy their company around the dinner table. While some tables may become embroiled in political discussion, the vast majority are expected to not discuss politics at all or at least keep it to a small, civil discussion.
