The Beginning of an Era for DC Movies

James Gunn’s Superman movie has overall been a huge success in theatres and will likely continue to thrive throughout the month. The film feels like a comic book that came to life and portrays Superman in a way that we haven’t seen in a long time. This victory for Gunn is not only another movie to display among his other successes, but also the catalyst for a new run of movies that will hopefully put DC back on the map in the mainstream’s eyes.

For the past decade, DC has been plagued with setbacks and criticism over its attempts to make a cinematic universe that could rival Marvel. Poor decisions in every department have led many of their movies to be mocked by critics and casual viewers. It was clear that changes needed to be made, including wiping the slate clean for the cinematic universe.

This is where James Gunn comes in. His previous endeavors with “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Suicide Squad” showed that he could create new and exciting narratives for characters that nobody knew about. Even if you are not a fan of his work, it is hard to deny that he knows what he is doing and respects the material of these characters. If there is anyone who could lead the way for DC to make a comeback, it would be Gunn.

Granted, it’s still far too early to judge the fate of this new cinematic universe, but it is a good start. If James Gunn can keep up with the quality of his works, we may very well be entering into a new era for the DC franchise.
