The Benefits of Yoga and Why You Should Include It in Your Workout Routine

Yoga is a form of exercise that has been long established around the world but is often overlooked and under-appreciated due to the stereotype that it is feminine and can’t be an intense form of workout. That is inaccurate. Yoga is a holistic practice that integrates the mind and body along with improving flexibility, strength, and balance; it targets the body as a whole and the entirety of one’s well-being.

When considering if you should add yoga to your workout routine, you should consider that it enhances your flexibility and range of motion through a variety of poses that rely on lengthening muscle and stretching. This will elevate your flexibility and mobility, while also alleviating muscle stiffness which can greatly improve your body health.

Yoga is also an amazing way to target abs and core for your weekly workouts. Many yoga positions require you to support your body weight and build strength in your core through poses like planks and downward dog. This can be very helpful and complements other forms of strength training that you may already be doing.

Yoga practices mindfulness and promotes mental wellness which in turn reduces stress and elicits relaxation. The breathing exercises and meditation practices that are also a part of yoga help calm the mind and lower cortisol levels which has long-term effects on mental clarity and emotional resilience.

Yoga adapts to individual needs and preferences, making it accessible to all ages and fitness levels which makes it a great addition to your fitness regimen.
