The world was horrified over the shocking death of Iryna Zarutska. A Ukrainian immigrant who was murdered while commuting on a light rail line in Charlotte, North Carolina.
It was a sign that the United States had an issue with mental health. Considering the suspect was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Yet, was still released without any treatment or supervision.
What hurts is that the incident was recorded. Allowing footage to be seen by millions around the world. An image that I’ll admit I can’t bring myself to watch.
If that doesn’t leave you with mixed emotions. Hip Hop artist, DaBaby, dropped a new track called “Save Me”. I know discussion about DaBaby in 2025 is crazy but this is where it all connects.
DaBaby also released a video for “Save Me”. And it appears to reenact the light rail incident that so many people are already fuming about.
For a man who has made insulting comments about the LGBTQ community and made a tone deaf statement about the assault of fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion. This next rollout does not seem to aid in his resume of ill-fated decision making. Don’t get me started of those viral videos of him beating someone up, almost a physical assault charge away from jail.
The video in itself, is shockingly not as bad as thought. It showcases him actually saving the girl by grabbing the guy’s hand at the last second and walking him off the train to the police. Which isn’t a bad statement at all.
The problem is that the song and video were released way too soon. So, it comes off as tone-deaf and the family of Iryna said to not repost any images of the incident.
DaBaby clearly had good intentions but in terms of timing, coupled with the rapper’s troubled history. This was not the right way to do this at all.
