The MLB trade deadline is quickly approaching, let’s look at who might join the Yankees

With the end of the MLB trade under a month away, one team Sports Illustrated believes should be carefully watched is the New York Yankees.

Like any team, The Yankees are looking to upgrade their roster, and aren’t afraid to spend a pretty penny doing so. From what is currently known, there are five potential trade players the Yankees are looking at.

Despite scoring lower than usual this season, as mentioned by Sports Illustrated, third baseman Alex Bregman from the Houston Astros has been impressive enough to put him on the Yankee’s radar. This year, Bregman has hit nine home runs, 37 RBI, and .248/.309/.397. This, his defense skills, and bat skills, would make Bregman more than welcome in New York baseball.

Tanner Scott, a reliever for the Marlins, would, with good reason, be an expensive trade. Appearing 35 times this season, Scott collected a 6-5 record, a 1.50 ERA, a 1.14 WHIP, 12 saves, and only 2 blown saves. His possible assistance in the bullpen, where pitchers warm up, is highly emphasized.

With a season full of struggles, the Chicago Cubs have been on the lookout for potential sellers. If they open up to any trades, one player that might be swapped is Cody Bellinger. Having a relatively good season, Bellinger batted .267/.328/.419, and hit nine home runs and 34 RBI.

While highly unlikely, the Yankees receiving Mason Miller of the Oakland Athletics would be a major advantage in the World Series. Considered “one of the hottest players on the market” by Sports Illustrated, Miller has pitched in 30 games this year. Across these games, he has recorded a 1.96 ERA, 0.79 WHIP, 4.9 K/BB ratio, 14 saves, and only two blown saves.

A standout trade target for the Yankees is the Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. While Guerrero is another player unlikely to be traded, it could happen with the right offer. Having hit .296/.372/.470, 13 home runs, and recorded 50 RBI, Guerrero’s having a powerful 2024 season.

Placed fourth in the league’s standings, the Yankees are a serious contender for the World Series. The right trade for the right players could help get them there and, potentially, help them win. Then again, teams won’t let go of their best players that easily.

Let the battle begin baseball lovers, let’s see who joins which team.
