“The Penguin” Batman Spinoff Trailer Released

A lot happened this past weekend at the San Diego Comic-Con, especially for Marvel. But on the DC side of things also saw some exciting announcements. One was the release of the trailer for “The Penguin”.

The show is a spinoff of 2022’s “The Batman”, where Irish actor Colin Farrell plays one of the movie’s antagonists, the Penguin. The original film does not feature him for long, but this series will follow the Penguin and his rise to power in the criminal world of Gotham City.

It will take place one week after the film’s events and go until right before the events of the next movie “The Batman Part II” which will hit theaters in October of 2026.

Following the death of crime boss Carmine Falcone and the massive flooding at the end of the first film, Penguin must find his way to take control of the criminal underground. He is attempting to take over the drug distribution in Gotham, something touched on in the movie, “Whoever controls the drug business controls the streets”.

Farrell could not say much about the series, but in an interview with MovieZine, he hammered home that this season is very fierce. He said, “It’s dark; that’s what I can tell you about it. It’s dark. It’s really heavy, I think— it certainly was doing it…It’s incredibly violent. It’s one man’s rise to what he’s always dreamed of inhabiting, which is a certain power or social status.” This was quite evident in the trailer.

The trailer also introduces Sofia Falcone, played by Cristin Milioti. This new character is the psychotic daughter of Carmine Falcone, who was recently released from the Arkham Asylum. There already seems to be tension between her character and Penguin, which should make for some awesome on-screen interactions.

The series is set to premiere on Max this September. Until then the trailer is up on YouTube on the official Max Channel.
