The Return of Fast-food Fish Sandwiches

There was a time when fast food chains offered fish sandwiches, but that era, which included the participation of brands like Long John Silver’s and Red Lobster, is long gone due to people’s growing dissatisfaction with seafood. The brands have either shut down or altogether discontinued Fish Sandwiches. Recently, something shocking happened: McDonalds revived their classic Fillet-O-Fish.

Soon after, other fast-food chains like Popeyes, Burger King, Arby’s and Sonic’s brought their former fish meals, only for a limited time. So, what’s with the revival of fast-food fish sandwich deals? Is it a Tik Tok trend being capitalized? A craving for some crispy fish textures? Or is it related to something historical?

Well, if you guessed the latter, then you’re onto something. It’s currently Lent, a 40 day season  that commemorates the 40 Days Jesus fasted in the desert, enduring temptation from the Devil. Today, from March 5 to April 17, many Catholics are expected to abstain from meat. Specifically distractions that include alcohol, beef, chicken, sweets, and desserts. However, one thing that’s acceptable for those in good health is fish.

As fish is considered a replacement for flesh meat, this allows people to eat on Good Friday. Companies are taking advantage of this observance. Whether it’s shrimp, scallops, flounder, tilapia, catfish, salmon, or po’boy. It should be good to eat during the Lenten Season. So, make sure to get deals and specials during this period of observance. It’s technically Seafood season, make the best out of it.
